WORKSHOP DEVELOPMENT AND MCB REAL ESTATE WELCOME STREETS MARKET TO CHARLES VILLAGE
STREETS TO BE PART OF A NEW STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT
Baltimore, MD (March 10, 2021) Baltimore based MCB Real Estate and WorkShop Development have teamed to bring a new mixed-use project to Charles Village. As part of the plan, Streets Market will occupy the former Eddie’s for approximately 2 years before the start of construction for the new development. At completion of the mixed-use project, Streets will open a new, modern store.
“We recognize that Eddie’s was the heart of the Charles Village,” stated MCB Managing Partner, P. David Bramble. “That is why we knew that finding a great main-street focused grocer was critical to the quality of life in Charles Village and the success of our future project.”
Streets Market is a Washington, DC based grocer currently with nine locations. Their tenth is located at Yard 56 in Baltimore. “Our stores are designed for walkable neighborhoods, with a variety catering to a diverse customer base in a compact format.” Explained Campbell Burns, Vice President of Streets Market. “We are excited to introduce ourselves to Charles Village in the existing building while we look forward to a state-of-the-art store in the new development.”
The proposed development will include the grocery store, other St. Paul Street retail and approximately 220 student housing beds. “We are working diligently on preliminary design now and are looking forward to community involvement as we endeavor to make this a fantastic addition to Charles Village,” said Doug Schmidt, Principal of Workshop Development.
Baltimore City Councilwoman Odette Ramos, representing the 14th district stated, “I am excited the development team knew the desire of the community to have another grocery in the former Eddie’s space. While no one can replace Jerry and Darlene Gordon, Streets Market has a good reputation in the area and I welcome them to our community. I look forward to the community input process on the rest of the development proposal.”
In December, the partners purchased former home of Eddie’s Market of Charles Village. The team is under agreement to also purchase 3121 St. Paul Street, the home of Bank of America and Ajumma.
