Real Estate is Critical to People

The Story of Workshop Development

Real estate isn’t just an investment, a building, a place you work, or the place you live; real estate is critical to people, neighborhoods, and communities. At Workshop Development, we believe in creating environments that impact communities in positive ways. We work with community leaders, politicians, and neighborhoods to positively change places where people go to work, live, or gather; where you may have met your best friend, got engaged to your spouse, or where you built your career.

Founding Principal, Doug Schmidt knew early on he was destined for a career in real estate. His love for legos and block construction conveyed an early passion that would later came to fruition; as he channeled his creativity to brick and mortar projects, in the rapidly changing urban landscape of Baltimore City. After graduating from Duke University, Doug spent 16 years at CB Richard Ellis as a broker focusing on landlord representation and national corporate assignments. Doug co-founded Chesapeake Real Estate Group in 2005.

Doug formed Workshop Development in 2014 with a different approach to real estate development. The company is an “Entrepreneurial Development Firm,” meaning we partner with communities to create positive change. The development process is a long and arduous journey for any project. It takes vision and patience. We look for opportunities where we can benefit a community by creating job opportunities, increasing real estate property value, and helping businesses grow.

We are very proud to have been involved with many great projects that have positively impacted neighborhoods in Baltimore.
